Description

The Conversion to Co-operatives Project (Co-op Convert) aimed to better understand this often-overlooked business transition option.

This initiative examined how the model can help preserve jobs, address growing succession needs and help keep communities vibrant and growing through the creation of new co-operatives.

The project brought together two of Canada’s leading research centres for co-operative and social economy research – the University of Toronto’s Centre for Learning, Social Economy & Work (CLSEW) and the Université de Sherbrooke – Institut de recherche et d’éducation pour les coopératives et les mutuelles (IRECUS) – with the participation of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC).

The Co-op Convert Project was primarily funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada’s (SSHRC) Partnership Development Grants.
